Further information

The factory complex in Bern-Bümpliz, which was commissioned by Schild AG in 1960 and now houses part of the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), was built in 1958/59 by architect Henry Daxelhofer in collaboration with the engineering firm Emch und Berger as a two-storey low-rise building with an extended basement.

The two-storey 70 x 70 m skeleton building with a shed roof was built in an area that was still sparsely built-up at the time, directly next to the Bümpliz Nord railway station, to the south of the Tscharnergut. The experienced architect Daxelhofer skilfully combined design elements of the form-conscious 1950s with the early ideas of rationalism in the industrial complex, designed as a "factory on the outskirts" between the residential area and the railway station, in a manner typical of the time.
