Description

The railway boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries prompted the Ludwig von Roll Ironworks Company to build a switch-making hall in 1914–15. Today, this steel-framed building is used as a lecture theatre (Fabrikstrasse 6) and is listed in the canton’s building inventory as worthy of protection. The architecture combines the existing structure with the new building according to the ‘house-within-a-house’ principle and is regarded as an exemplary, resource-efficient conversion of a historic industrial building.
