Co-operative family living in the former waste incineration plant in Bern. Our "Here comes the sun" project consists of 40 flats for families and 8 Joker studios for rent. The building has an industrial feel: A simple and robust external structure with a rich interior. The openness and generosity of industrial architecture is combined with the necessary security and complexity for family flats. The clear cubic exterior is contrasted by a lively interior with different types of flats: From 3-storey terraced houses to nested split-level types and conventional multi-storey flats in the tower volume. All flats are accessed via a single staircase in the eastern corner of the tower. The stairwell is designed with external connections and a large family lift. The storey flats and the roof terrace are directly accessible from the stairwell. The remaining flats are accessed via wide pergolas designed as recreation and meeting zones that enliven the Holligerhof.
