Warmbächli housing cooperative
The Warmbächli cooperative has converted the old Chocolat Tobler AG warehouse on the site of the former waste incineration plant. It has set itself the goal of creating ecologically, socially and economically sustainable living and working space for people in different circumstances. The project by BHSF Architektur und Städtebau, with its urban planning and architectural approach that aims to conserve resources and create a new identity from the existing building, is ideally suited to the cooperative's objectives. With its overly deep floor plans, high rooms and solid concrete skeleton, the existing building offers the potential to recombine uses and rethink flats. Various flat types, from 1-bedroom flats to 15.5-bedroom flats, create space for the different lifestyles of the 230 or so residents in the existing building and the extension. The courtyard-facing basement floors offer space for communal and commercial uses that create added value for the self-managed building and the neighbourhood.
