The plot is located in a residential area close to Bern's city centre that is characterised by large turn-of-the-century villas. This urban planning situation led to the distribution of the permitted living space across four buildings, with flats that form actual city villas with their individual entrances and two-storey layout.
The access and, above all, the different design of the flats and the associated outdoor spaces, together with the consistent protection of the private areas from intrusive views, result in a strong sculptural expression.
The cohesion of the whole, as well as the accentuation of the reciprocal relationships between buildings and open spaces, is emphasised by the central pedestrian axis, which in part runs as an "arbour" under the houses, connecting all the flat entrances, the underground car park, the indoor swimming pool, the craft rooms and the outdoor play areas.
