Further information

The Bern-Bethlehem neighbourhood, which had grown considerably since the post-war period, had to make do with a temporary church from 1969 to 1989. The long wait paid off: the church architect Willi Egli created a monument of exceptional quality in 1989. The main functions are lined up in a linear fashion and are organised into a self-contained whole by two flanking access routes. The dynamic sectional solution makes this simple arrangement remarkably spectacular. (Text CH-Heimatschutz)
Only recently, the Swiss Heritage Society dedicated a separate chapter to St. Mauritius Church in its publication on the most beautiful buildings from 1975-2000, thereby honouring its architectural significance, which extends far beyond the city limits of Bern.
