Further information

Schmidlin Architekten (Zurich and Engadin) wins the international architectural competition for the renovation and extension of the Kunstmuseum Bern. The winning project "Eiger" envisages a striking new building with timeless appeal and a museum square. Jury president Thomas Hasler praised the "self-confident, modern architectural language" of the free-standing new building, which blends in well with the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the "clear added value" for the city. A convincing ensemble of buildings is being created around a museum square that opens up towards Hodlerstrasse and the Aare slope. The art museum will become a lively place of exchange and encounter, connected to the public space.
