Description

University libraries are among the most exciting architectural challenges. They offer architects an unusually wide scope for design and thus often become identity-defining landmarks or even prestige projects for universities. On a tour of the university district, we will visit the ‘Unitobler’, ‘vonRoll’ and ‘Mittelstrasse’ libraries. We will see just how differently the same building brief can be realised in design terms. We will also learn how the functional requirements for library projects have changed significantly over the past few decades.

An architectural walk provides an insight into the development of library architecture in recent times.
