After around 20 years of being rented out, the Enge school complex was renovated and reopened as a primary school in summer 2024. The school building, built in 1911 in a historicising style, and the gymnasium, added in 1931 in the New Objectivity style, were adapted to today's structural, educational, ecological and technical requirements in collaboration with the heritage conservation authorities. The room programme was carefully integrated into the existing structure. In order to preserve the original building fabric and atmosphere, the building was modelled on the historical structure and the boundaries between old and new were blurred. The precise and integrative interventions have brought the old school building back to life harmoniously and with a strong character.
